Miami Dolphins to honor legendary coach Don Shula with Jersey patch

Miami Gardens, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday, the team will wear a jersey patch during the 2020 season to commemorate legendary football coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula. The patch will feature Shula’s name and “347” to signify his all-time career wins, the most in NFL history.

“We are proud to continue honoring his historic life and legacy with a patch that is emblematic of his success on the football field as the winningest coach in our league’s history.” - Stephen Ross, Miami Dolphins owner.

Don Shula passed away in May at the age of 90.

This will be the first time in franchise history that the team honors a family member with a patch. The Dolphins wore a black armband on their jerseys with the initials “JR” in 1990 to honor the passing of team founder Joe Robbie.

Don Shula compiled a regular-season record of 328-156-6 as head coach of the Baltimore Colts (1963 to 1969) and the Miami Dolphins (1970 to 1995). He was 19-17 in the playoffs and led Miami to two Super Bowl victories, including the NFL’s only undefeated season.
