VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 27-year-old man wanted on an aggravated stalking charge after allegedly sending letters and gifts to a teenage girl has turned himself in, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Joseph Woodard turned himself in overnight and is back in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
The case began after deputies said Woodard, who lives in Lakeland, showed up at a home north of DeLand to meet a 16-year-old girl he had met on Snapchat.
According to the sheriff’s office, Woodard showed up at the home uninvited twice. During the second incident, the girl was sleeping when she heard a window rattling and saw Woodard outside.
When she opened the door to show him she was calling for help, deputies said Woodard put his foot in the doorway. The girl was able to close the door.
Deputies said Woodard then fired multiple gunshots into the ground outside the home before leaving in a red Toyota hatchback. The girl was not injured.
Deputies located the vehicle about 11 miles away, traveling north on State Road 11 toward Flagler County. They stopped the vehicle near State Road 11 and State Road 40 and detained Woodard despite what deputies described as resistance.
Inside the vehicle, deputies said they found two 9mm handguns, seven spent shell casings, about 350 rounds of 9mm ammunition and six Glock pistol magazines. Another spent shell casing was found in the driveway.
Woodard was initially charged with stalking, armed trespassing, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, discharge of a firearm on residential property and resisting.
He bonded out of jail Aug. 19 after about two and a half weeks in custody.
The sheriff’s office later said Woodard was wanted again for aggravated stalking after allegedly sending letters and gifts to the juvenile victim.
