Sofia Liguori, a research engineer, left the company after expressing shame over the direction of AI systems in military operations.

Another AI researcher, Andreas Kirsch, also resigned citing concerns about Google’s governance and oversight in deploying AI in military settings.

The Pentagon’s push for AI adoption has drawn scrutiny, with concerns raised about the lack of control over how the technology is used in classified environments.

Google’s contract permits its AI for “any lawful government purpose,” but with restrictions on domestic mass surveillance and autonomous weapons.
