BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Loved ones, law enforcement officers, and government officials gathered today for the funeral of Brevard County Sheriff’s Agent Kevin Morris, who was killed in the line of duty.
Morris served as an agent with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office following years of service with the Palm Bay Police Department. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey spoke at the service regarding the impact of the loss on the department and the region. “For us, there’s a huge void in our agency. I know our agency and our community is hurting,” Ivey said.
Brevard County Ivey highlighted Morris’ long service in law enforcement and his character both on and off duty. Morris’ family also maintains deep ties to local law enforcement, as his daughter works for the Melbourne Police Department. “He was a great person. It’s not a cliché with him. He was. He lived every day of his life that way. Not just when he was wearing the badge, but long before he put that badge on,” Ivey said. “He worked for Palm Bay for many years. His daughter works for Melbourne PD, and then, of course, he worked with us.”
In addition to his law enforcement career, Morris worked in education as a high school teacher and coach. The funeral drew a wide array of attendees, including Florida’s lieutenant governor, members of Congress, state legislators and first responders from across the nation. Former high school football players whom Morris coached were also in attendance. “He coached high school. He taught in high school; he did all of the above, checked every box,” Ivey said. “There were football players in the audience today that he coached when he was coaching high school. The people that he touched with his faith, he was such a strong man of faith. And so it all came together today.”
Pastor Norm of Calvary Chapel led prayers during the service, asking for strength and unity for the bereaved family. “Help his family to come closer together and find strength from each other as they are united in their love for Kevin,” Pastor Norm said.
Morris is survived by his mother, his wife Denise, and his three children, Courtney, Logan and Joel.
