LAKE BUENA VISTA , Fla. — A Disney animation experience is returning to Hollywood Studios, a decade after the original attraction closed.
The Magic of Disney Animation opens Monday as part of the reimagined Animation Courtyard. The experience is inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios campus in Burbank, California, and Disney’s Once Upon a Studio short film.
Disney says all 64 of its animated feature films are represented throughout the experience, with characters, artwork and hidden references for guests to find.
“We wanted to use the advantage of technology and a new kind of more interactive way of playing to bring some of these characters to life that you probably wouldn’t get to see otherwise in the parks,” said Andres Aranguibel with Disney Photo Imaging Creative Design.
Among the new experiences is “Olaf Draws!”, where an Audio-Animatronics Olaf joins guests as they learn how to draw Disney characters with recorded guidance from Disney Animation artists.
Guests can also explore “Off the Page!”, featuring character encounters tied to different parts of the animation process. Characters can include Mulan, Rapunzel, Chip ’n’ Dale, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Stitch.
The experience also includes an enchanted art gallery where Disney characters can come to life through new animations, as well as a theater showing Once Upon a Studio.
