Defense rests in Caryn Kelley trial

The defense took all day Friday putting on it's case, but not calling on the defendant to testify about the night in July 2011 when her boyfriend was shot in her College Park home.

Caryn kelley told the judge she decided against testifying because she had been too emotional during testimony.

Criminal defense attorney Diana Tennis is trying to debunk the testimony from Orange-Osceola County Medical Examiner that Phillip Peatross could not have shot himself, as the accused claims in this trial.

The 48-year-old Kelley of College Park is accused of shooting Peatross.  While he lay dying, she called 911 to report it.

The proceedings are beginning to attract more national attention as CBS' 48 Hours is covering the testimony in the manslaughter trial.

The jury has seen a video of the moment police informed Kelley that her boyfriend had died from the gunshot. She was visibly upset on tape and in the courtroom as the recording was played.

The defense put a medical expert on the stand who said he believed the shot came from a range of two to six inches. Earlier, Dr. Jan Garavaglia said she believed it was far enough away to rule out a suicide.

Later, Tennis called on a friend of Kelley's to describe the relationship between the two before the fateful shooting.
