DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach law enforcement is establishing a beachside special event zone this weekend in response to an unauthorized truck gathering.
The designation will be in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday as authorities prepare for heavy traffic congestion and a large influx of visitors.
The special event zone spans from University Boulevard south to Silver Beach Avenue, covering the area between the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean.
The designation gives law enforcement expanded authority to enforce traffic regulations and manage crowd safety across the beachside corridor.
Traffic fines are doubled inside the designated boundaries and police maintain the authority to impound vehicles for up to three days.
Event organizers may also be held liable for costs associated with additional police presence and sanitation efforts.
Law enforcement officers are closing selected streets to prevent a recurrence of an incident from March, when thousands of spring break participants rushed across the sand during an unpermitted celebration.
During that event, individuals scattered in all directions, leaving tourists confused.
While police declined to identify the specific event, online advertisements reference a truck meet in Seminole County alongside related gatherings and post-event celebrations in Daytona Beach.
Officials stated that regulations inside the zone will be rigorously applied and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time.
