Clark Howard weighs in on Delta Skymiles changes

Changes coming to frequent flier program in 2015

NEWS 96.5's Consumer Warrior Clark Howard is weighing in on the coming changes for Delta's frequent fliers.

"If you are a last mintue kind of booker for business travel, the new Delta system benefits you and Delta a lot. The only people frowning: your employer. Most people will be yearning for the old way."

Clark says that's because pre-planners who get deals by finding the best fares in advance are those the airlines can't make money from.

"They call it a 'junk fare.' We call it a bargain."

The bargain may still be there, but the miles will not. After recording the worlds largest industry profit, Clark tells us Delta's done chasing the bigger market share.

"Now it's all about how much money you can make, not how many customers you can fly."

Clark says Delta's move is nothing new as hotels, credit cards, and other airlines including Southwest and JetBlue have already moved to this model rewarding the folks who spend most.
