Nationwide — Disney has partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation to warn Star Wars fans that some scenes from their new movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker could trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
In a letter, Disney has asked theaters to post a warning on their websites and at their venues.
The movie will be released nationwide on December 20 and Disney says it contains several scenes with “ "imagery and sustained flashing lights."
While the company will not elaborate, they are concerned enough about the scenes to promote the warning.
AMC Theaters have the following warning on their website.
Photosensitivity Warning
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER contains several sequences with imagery and sustained flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or who have other photosensitivities.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects more than three million Americans, according to the CDC.
The Epilepsy Foundation offered these tips to anyone concerned about viewing the movie.
- Ask a friend to watch the movie first.
- Take your friend with you when you go see the film to alert you to which scenes contain the flashing lights so you block your eyes during those scenes.
- Teach your friend the three simple steps of seizure first aid — Stay, Safe, Side — so that they can assist if you have a seizure.
