A study in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that boys and men experience more social isolation than girls and women.

Those who are not married are disproportionately more affected.

Social isolation is associated with poor mental and physical health outcomes as well as an increased risk of mortality.

The study showed younger men are more isolated than younger women.
