WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) will host a press conference with Members of Congress and housing advocates to highlight the No Homeless Detention Centers Act on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a news release, the legislation supports stopping federal housing dollars from being used to force people experiencing homelessness into shelters, camps, or other detention-like facilities against their will.
The legislation would also stop federally funded facilities from requiring people experiencing homelessness to perform labor as a condition of receiving shelter.
The bill would also prevent federally funded facilities from punishing people for basic life-sustaining activities like sleeping, resting, eating, drinking, or protecting themselves from the weather.
This comes as Orange County commissioners proposed building a 150-bed homeless shelter on Goldenrod Road earlier this year. Frost did not call out the County Commission in his release, but the proposed location does sit in the district he represents.

Frost will be joined by multiple Democratic politicians like Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) and Jesse Rabinowitz, Campaign and Communications Director, National Homeless Law Center.
The Congressman added that federal housing dollars need to be “used to help people find permanent housing and stability—not punish people for being unhoused.”
