VIDEO: A manatee farts, but for a different reason than you and me

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Passing gas, letting one rip, or as we all simply know it, farting is nothing new. Everyone does it, even Florida’s lovely creatures known as manatees.

However, what you might not know is that it actually serves a valuable purposes to them. According to the St. Petersburg based See Through Canoe Company, they do it to control their buoyancy.

Apparently, all that cabbage they eat builds up gas, and extra portions of it is stored inside their intestines for whenever they need to swim to deeper depths.

Here’s video of one letting out a long one, and just in case you were wondering, it smells like “rotten cabbage and sulfur.
