MISSOURI CITY, Texas — A Texas elementary school student was able to thwart an abduction attempt by kicking a man who tried to steer her away as she walked home from school, officials said.
The girl, whose name and age were not revealed, was a student at Edgar Glover Jr. Elementary School in the southwest Houston suburb of Missouri City, KTRK reported.
In a letter sent out by Glover Principal Nikki Roberts, the child had just gotten off the bus on Oct. 22 when a middle-aged man approached her, KHOU reported. According to the student, the man asked her to take a walk with him, the television station reported. When the man reached for the girl, she reportedly kicked him and ran away, KTRK reported.
The man left the scene in an unidentified white car, the television station reported.
Police with the Fort Bend Independent School District were alerted, and officials said they have increased patrols in the area as a precaution, KHOU reported.
“While our student was not physically harmed in the incident, I encourage you to take the opportunity to speak with your child about the strangers and the importance of safety,” Roberts wrote in her letter to parents.
