A man in Chile was injured after the elevator he was riding in went out of control and flew up 31 floors in 15 seconds, then crashed into the roof.
31-year-old Jose Vergara got into the elevator on the first floor of a building at Bustamante Community Park in Providencia. As he chooses his floor, the elevator malfunctions and sends him flying up more than 30 floors in 15 seconds as he frantically tries to get the elevator to stop. After reaching the 31st floor the elevator crashes into the roof, leaving Vergara with serious head and leg injuries.
The building was finished just 8 months ago.
