Tesla will unveil its first electric SUV crossover tonight

HAWTHORNE, C.A. - Tesla CEO Elon Musk will introduce the Model Y, giving fans a first look at the car that could become the company's best-selling vehicle.

The electric vehicle is expected to be announced on March 14 at 8 p.m. PT at the Los Angeles Design Studio and will livestream the event on the Tesla website.

Musk says the Model Y has slightly less battery range than the Model 3 sedan and will cost around 10 percent more, so, about $40,000 dollars.

If history is any guide, don’t expect to drive one any time soon.

“We’re aiming to unveil the Model Y approximately March next year, and then go into production about two years from now,” Musk said at the Tesla June 2018 annual shareholder meeting. “Maybe a little less than two years, but basically first half of 2020 for production of Model Y.”
