State to discuss accountability for flooding on I-4 Ultimate Project

Longwood, Fla. — Interstate 4 was shut down for the second time this month as heavy rain flooded the roadway near Longwood,  Sunday.

Now, officials with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) say they are considering fining the contractor of the I-4 Ultimate Project.

FDOT said the problem stems from trash and debris getting caught in the drains during a heavy rainfall.

The contractor has agreed to pave the area around the drain in Longwood, to make it more effective.

State officials say a wire trap will also be installed on the inlet and the contractor agreed to check the drains more often.

They will also station a pump in the Longwood area as an added precaution.

Still, FDOT officials say they will continue to  discuss accountability.

So far this year, parts of Interstate 4 have been underwater six times.
