Polk County detectives are trying to figure out why a man shot and killed his wife and then himself while their 10-year-old daughter was in the home.
Investigators said James Denny called 911 just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to report gunfire.
While the operator was on the line, she heard a shot.
When deputies arrived, the couple’s daughter told them she heard the gunshots and her parents’ bedroom door was locked.
Denny and his wife were found shot to death in the room.
There was no domestic history with the couple, and no prior calls for service to the home.
