TALLAHASEE, Fla. — Florida residents will begin seeing a newly redesigned driver’s license and identification card starting Sept. 30, state officials announced.
The updated credentials feature several Florida-themed elements, including Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, a Florida manatee, a Florida alligator, and Space Shuttle Discovery on the reverse side.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the rollout during a Florida Cabinet meeting. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said the new cards also include enhanced security features, including a state seal image designed to help prevent fraud.
The redesigned IDs will be available at driver’s license service centers statewide beginning Sept. 30 and are expected to be available for online orders through the state’s MyDMV portal by early November.
Officials stressed that Floridians are not required to replace their current driver’s license or ID card. Existing credentials will remain valid until their expiration date and will be phased out over time.
The state says the redesign is intended to improve security while showcasing Florida’s history, wildlife and space exploration heritage.
