VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Marquevis Chance was sentenced in Volusia County to 15 years in prison, followed by five years of probation. Chance entered an open plea in June to aggravated battery with a firearm and two counts of robbery with a firearm.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, which stemmed from an incident on Aug. 3, 2025, at a DeBary park. Detectives learned the attack was carried out in retaliation for an argument involving a family member of one of the victims.
According to investigators, Chance approached a 17-year-old couple at the park, struck the boy in the head with a handgun, and pointed the weapon at the boy’s girlfriend.
After the attack, Chance forced the victims to undress, took their clothes, and left the park.
Chance later turned himself in to law enforcement after the teenage boy positively identified him.
