A 26-year-old college graduate died after the hole he was digging in the sand on the beach collapsed on top of him.
Police say Adam Pye dug a 10-foot-deep hole on Francis State Beach in California on Monday and was standing inside of it when it started to cave in.
Friends and bystanders rushed to his aid, digging with their hands and buckets trying to reach his head. They were able to reach him in about 5 minutes but he was unconscious. Paramedics worked on Pye while firefighters and bystanders tried to pull his body out of the hole. Rescuers were able to free Pye about 35 minutes later but he died at the scene.
According to SFGate, Pye had graduated college this year and was about to start a new job.
