A homeless man in San Francisco became trapped inside a garbage truck after searching for food in a dumpster.

Bystanders heard his screams and called for help, leading to an urgent rescue effort by first responders.
Firefighters sifted through trash to locate the man, who was treated for injuries while stuck in the garbage.
There was a fear that if they dumped the contents all at once the man would be injured further.
The man was eventually rescued after two hours and transported to the hospital.
One firefighter also cut their hand on something in the trash and was taken to the hospital.
The incident, involving a Recology truck, is under investigation in a city known for its polarizing homeless problem.
“This is pretty unusual,” Recology spokesperson Robert Reed said, adding that it’s been approximately 15 years since a person was rescued from a company truck by city firefighters.
