Orlando,Fla. — More and more people are opting to be tested for COVID-19 and rumors are swirling about people being turned away from local test sites.
This weekend, the Florida association of Public Information Officers posted on twitter that there was no wait in Orange County.
At the same time, one Winter Garden resident was online and on the phone looking for a test site - she never made it!
Tina Gass said she began feeling off on Friday, with an “intense headache”, muscle aches, and a fever that came and went.
Her fever spiked on Saturday night and first thing Sunday morning, she began looking for a test site, knowing her sister had been turned away twice last week when tests ran out in Lake County.
First, she called Urgent Care.
“I waited on hold for 20 minutes until I heard a recording that said testing results were delayed because of overwhelming demand, so that was not going to work for me.” said Gass.
Then she tried the internet.
"There were a dozen places from Jacksonville to Miami that said you could not walk-in or drive-up, that you must have an appointment to go in. I clicked on every single dot on the website and when i did it said no appointment available. " Gass said.
Gass finally decided to stay home until she hears from her doctor today.
“I didn’t go to the grocery store to get some things, because I didn’t want to take any chances.” she said, “I’m assuming this is what it is, and am trying to be self-responsible and isolating, but I sure would like to know for sure!”
