The Consumer Confidence Index for Gen X is at its lowest in at least four and a half years, indicating a decline in economic optimism.
The decline is possibly due to a midlife financial squeeze and emotional factors.
Gen X, considered the “sandwich generation,” is struggling to financially support both aging Boomer parents and Gen Z children, making it challenging to save for retirement.
Despite being in their peak earning years, only 35% of Gen X feel prepared to financially support their parents, and 55% feel they can support their children in the coming years.
Gen X is expected to lead global consumer spending through at least 2033, with a projected spending of $23 trillion by 2035.
