Flagler County, Fla. — The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has received complaints from residents saying that they have been contacted by phone from people claiming to be deputies from Flagler County and attempting to trick them into believing they have an outstanding warrant for an unpaid debt, missed jury duty or some minor infraction and that a fine is due.
The callers then try to convince residents to make the payments by wiring it through Western Union MoneyGram or registering a purchased prepaid credit card online. The callers even manage to manipulate the caller ID to make the number appear to come from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office or jail.
If you receive a call from anyone claiming to be a Sheriff, police officer, lawyer, or bounty hunter saying they have a warrant for your arrest, verify who you are speaking with.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office wants to alert the public of this scam and to assure its residents that if you do you have an active warrant for your arrest that they will not be contacting you via telephone or ask for payment over the phone.
