Coffee type might affect rate of biological aging in humans, study finds

A recent study from China suggests that the type of coffee people drink may be associated with biological aging.

Filtered coffee drinkers showed lower biological age acceleration, while instant coffee drinkers showed higher acceleration compared to non-coffee drinkers.

The study, published in npj Science of Food, examined nearly 50,000 adults from the UK Biobank and measured biological aging through telomere length and blood test results.

The research showed that people drinking more than three cups of filtered coffee per day had biological-age scores roughly 0.9 to 1.1 years “younger” than non-coffee drinkers.

The findings challenge the notion of a one-size-fits-all approach to coffee and highlight potential health benefits of filtered coffee consumption.

The study was observational and relied on self-reported data, with researchers noting limitations in establishing cause and effect.
