Atlas V rocket launches from Cape Canaveral

The Atlas V rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Wednesday.

The rocket is carrying a GPS satellite for the U.S. Air Force. It will provide navigational assistance for U.S. military operations on land, at sea and in the air.

It's the first launch from the Cape since the unmanned SpaceX Falcon 9 carrying supplies to the International Space Station exploded on June 28.

The company still has not determined what caused the issue.

This mission marks the 55th for an Atlas V launch since the vehicle's inaugural launch in 2002.
