Elderly woman carjacked, dragged in DeLand

DELAND, Fla. — A 93-year-old woman was left bleeding after two men grabbed her keys and then took her car parked outside St. Peter’s Catholic Church in DeLand this morning.

“Thankfully we were able to apprehend these folks and thankfully she was not seriously injured,” said Police Chief Jason Umberger.

The woman was dragged about 20 feet as she was trying to stop the suspect from taking her car.

Darius Matthews and David Perkins III were arrested.

Police said the victim was “very articulate” in describing the men who took her purse and then her car.
