Black Lives Matter leader appalled by ‘bad ape’ in Planet of the Apes movie

One of the leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement is taking a Planet of the Apes movie sequel to task for their depiction of an ape with a blue vest that he feels is similar to his signature look.

Deray McKesson tweeted this week what he believes is evidence of the ‘lack of consciousness in Hollywood.’

Given the history of rendering black people as apes, I'm offended & appalled by the lack of consciousness in Hollywood.<br/>

The tweet was captured before McKesson deleted it:

McKesson was not alone in noticing the similarities to his blue vest and that of character from the forthcoming movie.

The internet was very quick to point out that the movie was actually paying homage to the original costumes from the original 1960’s franchise.
