The longtime Fox sportscaster has been mentioned as a guest host for the game show, Sports Illustrated reported.

If Buck, 51, does take on the guest role, he will be the second sports celebrity to stand at the podium that the late Alex Trebek manned for 37 years. On Friday, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers ended a two-week stint as guest host, to favorable reviews.

Trebek died in November after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 80.

Buck would join other celebrities like Katie Couric, Ken Jennings and Dr. Oz. CNN’s Anderson Cooper will begin hosting the show on Monday. Other people on the guest list include Bill Whitaker, Mayim Bialik, Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, USA Today reported.

The possibility of Buck, a seven-time Emmy Award winner, hosting was first reported by the New York Post.

Rodgers certainly enjoyed his time as a host.

“The best part of guest-hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ is watching the incredibly smart contestants test themselves against the game and against each other,” Rodgers said during one of the episodes. “It takes quick reflexes and the ability to make intelligent decisions on the fly to be a ‘Jeopardy!’ champion. … Something I can definitely relate to.”

Buck certainly has experience in front of the microphone. He has been calling games at Fox since 1994 and has called 23 World Series games, 25 MLB League Championship Series and six Super Bowls, according to his biography at Fox.

From 2015 to 2018, Buck hosted “Undeniable with Joe Buck,” a sports interview series on Audience Network, USA Today reported.

He is the son of legendary baseball broadcaster Jack Buck, and in 2020 was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the winner of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.
