Keron D. Shockley, 30, of Leona, was charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary, according to a news release from the Ephrata Police Department.

Police said that on Oct. 29 at about 11:51 a.m., Shockley, who was partially masked, attempted to gain access to an apartment in Ephrata, WHP-TV reported.

Police said Shockley used an ax to break out the windows and doors of the apartment, according to the television station.

The resident in the apartment yelled when hearing the noises from the ax, thwarting Shockley’s attempt to enter the apartment, WHTM-TV reported.

As he fled the area, Shockley allegedly broke another window and the windshield of a vehicle with the ax, police said in its news release.

Using video footage and witness statements, police were able to identify Shockley, WHP reported. Ephrata police arrested him Sunday at 2:10 p.m. EST.

Shockley posted bail after his arrest, police said. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing, according to police.
