North Carolina toddler accidentally shot in head by sibling in Clayton home, police say

CLAYTON, N.C. — A North Carolina toddler was hospitalized after a sibling accidentally shot her last week, authorities said.

According to WNCN and WTVD, the incident occurred about 11 a.m. Friday at a home on Smart Court in Clayton. A woman and her three children were inside the home when one child found a semi-automatic handgun and shot the 2-year-old girl. The toddler suffered a gunshot wound to the head, Clayton police said.

Authorities rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was in the emergency room, the news outlets reported. Authorities said she was alive but did not disclose her condition.

Police have not filed any charges in connection with the shooting but continue to investigate the case, according to WNCN.
