Mick Jagger teams with Dave Grohl to release new song about pandemic

Mick Jagger got no satisfaction out of the pandemic. But his new song with Dave Grohl is a call to all past resignations about COVID-19.

The two rock ‘n’ roll legends announced the release of a new song, “Eazy Sleazy,” on Tuesday.

“It’s a song that I wrote about coming out of lockdown, with some much-needed optimism,” Jagger, 77, said in a statement. “Thanks to Dave Grohl for jumping on drums, bass and guitar. It was a lot of fun working with him.”

The song and lyric video are available for streaming via YouTube.

The three-minute, 46-second track explores the harsh realities of living during the pandemic, referencing quarantine through metaphorical “prison walls” and mocks conspiracy theories and anti-vaccination proponents.

“Shooting the vaccine/Bill Gates is in my bloodstream/It’s mind control,” Jagger sings. “The Earth is flat and cold/It’s never warming up/The arctics turned to slush/The second coming’s late/There’s aliens in the deep state.”

Jagger also pokes fun at TikTok’s “stupid dance” and endless Zoom calls, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Despite some dark lyrics, Jagger mostly writes about an optimistic post-pandemic future.

“Everything’s gonna get really freaky,” Jagger sings. “It’s gonna be a garden of earthly delights.”

After writing the music for the song, Jagger sent a demo to Grohl, 52, who began working on it the next day, Rolling Stone reported.

“It’s hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick means to me,” Grohl told the magazine. “It’s beyond a dream come true.”

Jagger said he wrote the lyrics “very quickly.”

“It sounded really good and I thought, ‘You gotta put it out now because it’s not gonna be any good in three or six months,’” Jagger told Rolling Stone. “I said, “I’d love to do it with someone really great and is working from home.’

“I knew Dave and (Foo Fighters) just put out an album so I knew he got that out of the way. I phoned Dave up and said, ‘Dave, would you be interested?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’m really bored! I want to do it. I want to work!’”

“I said, ‘fine, I’ll send you the song.’ It was all done quite quickly. Dave likes it ‘cause it rocks hard. I like to rock hard, too, so it feels good in that way.”

Jagger has writing politically charged songs before. In 2017 he released a pair of solo tracks, “England Lost,” and “Get a Grip,” which spoke to uncertainties of the time, Entertainment Weekly reported.

And in 1968, the Rolling Stones put out the anthem-like “Street Fighting Man,” which wondered “What can a poor boy do/Except to sing for a rock ‘n’ roll band?”
