The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Tuesday that Fonda, 83, will receive the honor during the 2021 ceremony, which will air at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Fonda, a two-time Academy Award winner, will join last year’s winner, Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington and Robin Williams as recipients of the award, The Los Angeles Times reported. Other winners have been Robert De Niro, Sophia Loren, Sean Connery, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Meryl Streep, according to Variety.

“For more than five decades, Jane’s breadth of work has been anchored in her unrelenting activism, using her platform to address some of the most important social issues of our time,” HFPA President Ali Sar said in a statement. “Her undeniable talent has gained her the highest level of recognition, and while her professional life has taken many turns, her unwavering commitment to evoking change has remained. We are honored to celebrate her achievements at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards.”

Fonda, a 15-time Golden Globe nominee, has won the award seven times, E! Online reported. In addition to the Golden Globes and two Oscars, Fonda also has won an Emmy Award and four People’s Choice Awards, the website reported.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award recognizes Fonda’s career in film. The actress won Oscars for best actress for her performances in “Klute” in 1972 and “Coming Home” in 1979. She also starred in “The China Syndrome,” “9 to 5,” “The Electric Horseman,” “Barefoot in the Park,” “Julia” and “On Golden Pond.”

More recently, Fonda appeared in the Netflix series “Grace & Frankie,” along with “Book Club” and “Youth,” Variety reported.

The HFPA is also celebrating Fonda’s activism through the years on behalf of women, Indigenous communities, workers and the environment, the Times reported. Fonda has also led Fire Drill Friday demonstrations urging lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to enact more legislation about climate change, the newspaper reported.
