Four dead after police chase of stolen UPS truck ends in barrage of gunfire

Miami-Dade County, Fla — Police say it all started with the armed robbery of jewelry store Thursday afternoon in Coral Gables.

The suspects carjacked a UPS truck, taking the driver and another person hostage, then led police on high-speed pursuit that ended in an exchange of gunfire.

Miramar Police confirm that four people are dead, including the UPS driver and a bystander.

Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak said multiple suspects exchanged gunfire with a jewelry shop employee, with some bullets hitting city hall across the street.

City Hall was placed on a lockdown.

Chief Hudak said a woman who works at the jewelry shop was injured in the incident. She was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

No officers were injured by the exchange of gunfire.
