‘Smooshy-faced’ cats can’t show emotions, vexing humans everywhere

New research suggested kitties with smooshed-faces can’t show their true feelings.

In a study shared in The Conversation, study author Lauren Fink explains that breeds such as Persians, Himalayans, or the internet famous “Grumpy Cat”, are unable to express emotions as well as their narrow-faced counterparts.

These breeds are the result of selective breeding on the part of humans in an attempt to make a cuter, more-cuddly cat, but Frink argues this inability to express themselves could result in them not getting the attention they need from their owners—i.e. their owners might not realize their cat is in pain, or needs medical attention.

Fink adds, “If purchasing a pet from a breeder, ensure that the desired breed does not typically suffer from chronic health problems and choose the breeder carefully.”

Legit first time I’ve ever caught a pic of her mid-yawn. I mean ‘growl.’ Mid-growl.
