You probably won’t miss the new Pink-a-boo version of what looks like a pale strawberry on store shelves in Central Florida, but it is in fact a Pineberry.
The naturally white, pink-tinted fruit is a hybrid strawberry growing at Wish Farms in Plant City and is one of two new varieties at the Florida Strawberry Festival this year.
The Festival runs from March 4-14 in Plant City.
The new variety was bred by UF Professor Vance Whitaker, who told WTVT news he bred the variety by cross-pollinating Japanese and Florida plants.

Pineberries get their name from the pineapple scent and taste, although some say they taste more like pears.
This year you will only find Pineberries at stores in Central Florida where they are part of a trial run and they will cost about double the price of traditional strawberries.
