Yes, Dubai is actually using drones to make it rain in the desert

The city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates is using drone aircraft to make it rain in the desert city.

UAE officials recently shared video of a downpour that was created by launching drones into the sky, which ‘zap’ clouds with electricity to force rainfall.

The electric charge helps form raindrops that are large enough to reach the ground, rather than evaporate in mid-air.

UAE - which typically sees no rain at all during the summer months - is dealing with dwindling water resources coupled with an exploding population, making demand for water even higher.
