Man injured by jaguar after sticking his hand in its cage at Jacksonville zoo

Officials with the Jacksonville Zoo say they will not press charges against a man who was injured after sticking his hand in a jaguar cage.

Witnesses said the man jumped over a safety barrier and was waving his hand around trying to get the attention of the big cats.

That’s when one clawed the man.

Jacksonville Zoo Deputy Director Dan Maloney said, “This was an individual that wasn’t using his head. If that animal would have latched on it would have been a very different situation. He is lucky to still have his hand.”

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
