Orlando, Fla. — SpaceX has finally landed its Starship prototype upright at the company’s facility in southern Texas Wednesday evening.
This was the third high-altitude flight test of the interplanetary spaceship.
At approximately 6:15 p.m. ET, Starship SN10 launched from its pad in Boca Chica, Texas.
The prototype appeared to land safely despite a small fire near the engine.
A livestream from the YouTube channel NASA Spaceflight shows SN10 suddenly explode.
Oof. SN10 has decided to join SN8 and SN9.

Still a great advancement with the landing.

Two previous prototypes have flown and exploded during landing attempts but that doesn’t mean they were failures.
The test flights are steps toward to eventually creating a reusable spaceship capable of moon and Mars missions.
OMG...after a perfect landing & sitting on the pad for a min or so SN10 exploded on the pad. Unexpected at best! #SpaceX #NASA pic.twitter.com/MeJZ3TgjMN

SN10: Spoke too soon; SN10 exploded a few moments ago, erupting in a spectacular fireball that destroyed the vehicle; no obvious cause; will await an update from Elon Musk/SpaceX

Starship SN10 launched *and* stuck the landing today! Even if it fell over shortly afterward, a huge milestone has been reached. /thread @NASASpaceflight pic.twitter.com/c6LwX8TrzK
