Testimony has concluded for the day.

In total, the defense has called nearly two dozen witnesses so far including doctors and Loyd’s friends and family members.

Loyd’s mother testified Friday that Loyd’s father was not involved in Loyd’s life, and that she was an absent mother. She said at one point, she had Loyd admitted into a mental health facility.

The defense is trying to convince the jury to spare Loyd’s life, saying he suffers from mental illnesses and went through years of abuse.

ORIGINAL STORY

Markeith Loyd’s sentencing case likely won’t go to the jury until next week.

The defense still has more witnesses to question as attorneys try to convince jurors not to sentence Loyd to death.

On Thursday, a doctor who evaluated Loyd testified that Loyd has PTSD because of trauma during his childhood.
