Orlando, Fla. — Another step forward today in distributing the COVID-19 vaccine as members of the Orlando Fire Department take their first shots Saturday morning.
According to their Facebook, Chief Barksdale and an undisclosed number of other department firefighters took their first of two shots, something the department says “is a critical step to help protect our community.” This comes after it was announced that first responders would be among the many first to receive the vaccine before it was made available to the public. Governor Ron Desantis has said that once the vaccine does become available, Florida residents 65 and older will be among those to get it first.
You can see video of the chief receiving the first shot of the vaccine here.

We are thankful to receive additional protection against the virus and for all who are taking this important precaution as it’s made available.
