There is an area of disturbed weather over the southern Bahamas that could develop into a tropical depression this weekend bringing rain into central Florida.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami is giving the system a 70% chance of further development over the next 48 hours and an 80% over the next five days.
News 96.5 WDBO spoke to the National Weather Service office in Melbourne. Meteorologist Tim Sedlock says the environment around the system could easily help it to become a depression within the next 24-48 hours.
“Wind shear is favorable for some potential development with this system and the waters remain fairly warm, so that’s a positive for potential development as well,” said Sedlock.
WFTV Channel 9 meteorologist Brian Shields says we need to keep a close eye on the system heading into the weekend.
If the system reaches Tropical Storm strength, it will be named Humberto.
