WATCH: SpaceX launches Egyptian communications satellite aboard Falcon 9 rocket

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Falcon 9 rocket carrying an Egyptian communications satellite blasted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Wednesday evening.

The almost three-hour launch window opened at 5:04 p.m.

The rocket carried the Egyptian Nilesat-301 communications satellite, which aims to provide digital broadband and internet to North Africa, the Middle East, Sudan and East Africa.

This is the sixth launch of this particular first-stage booster, and it is the most recent in support of the GPS III Space Vehicle 04 mission.

After the launch, the rocket’s first stage will land on the Just Read the Instructions droneship stationed off Florida’s coast.
