Seminole County school leaders to decide whether to make masks optional for students, staff members

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — School leaders in Seminole County are expected to make a big decision about COVID-19 protocols in classrooms this fall that includes whether masks should be mandatory for students and staff.

A task force recommends making masks optional for students and staff members who are vaccinated.

A final vote is expected at Seminole County Public School headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.

A majority of Central Florida school districts have already decided what to do about mask mandates this fall.

Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Osceola and Volusia counties made masks voluntary.

Orange County Public Schools is still debating ditching masks. A final decision is expected July 13.

The Seminole County school board meeting is at 5:30 p.m.
