ORLANDO, Fla. — The State Fire Marshal’s Office says they’ve completed their investigation into the fire at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando last month and found the cause to be an accident.

WFTV has requested a copy of the fire investigation report that would outline in greater detail how the Fire Marshal’s office reached their conclusion. Once the records are released, the information will be updated here.

At least thirteen cats were killed in the Sept. 15th fire at the Pet Alliance facility on Conroy Road.

First responders were able to save nearly 30 cats and 26 dogs from the blaze.

Orange County Fire Rescue responded around 10:20 p.m. to the fire at the 5,000 square-foot building, which was 50% involved in flames, spokeswoman Lisa McDonald said.

Flames could be seen through the roof of the building when firefighters arrived on scene.

Pet Alliance Director Stephen Bardy said the fire appeared to have started in the front of the building, which is adjacent to the cat area.

The surviving pets were moved to the Sanford location, according to Bardy.

He said there were many rescues from Hurricane Ida in the building at the time of the fire.

About 50% of the pet alliance’s animals are in foster care, Bardy said.

The pet alliance recently announced that the same location will be closing its clinic this month.
