Over 1,000 Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort workers will be laid off

Orlando, Fla. — Even though many Disney employees had the privilege to return back to work in March, thousands will be out of a job in November.

A notice from the Teamsters 385 union says that 1,136 employees will be terminated on November 13. Of those impacted include 256 banquet servers, 41 cooks, 67 housekeepers, and 88 loss prevention officers. This is due to the low number of occupancy at both resorts and the number of canceled events that has been caused by the pandemic.

Beforehand, it used to be the place where members of the Major League Soccer team would stay, but now that they are gone, the amount of people checking in have reportedly been on the sharp decline.

The notice went on to say that these challenging will extend into 2021, so “based on these forecasts, it has been determined that job eliminations are required.”
