As more doctors, nurses, and other medical care providers treat COVID 19 patients across the U.S. they’re returning home to families at risk of exposure and many are choosing to self-isolate.
To meet the need an organization is matching these front line warriors fighting the coronavirus with recreational vehicles and campers where they can still live “at home” without being inside where they can potentially expose their loved ones to the virus.
RVs for MDs has garnered national media attention over the past few weeks while matching hundreds of medical professionals and first responders with RVs.
News 96.5 WDBO spoke to one physician assistant working in two hospital emergency rooms in Central Florida who was matched with an RV. Kevin Howell says with the number of COVID 19 cases now growing by hundreds each day it was time for him to self-isolate.
“I’ve been limiting contact even at home for the last few weeks, but now as things are ramping up, I don’t even want to be in the same house or run that risk,” said Howell.
RVs for MDs is using its Facebook Group to organize the effort.
Co-founder Holly Haggard tells News 96.5 WDBO they’ve been able to match 755 RVs with MDs who need them thanks to the kindness of volunteers.
“Some of them are an hour to two hours away and these RV owners are still driving all the way to these medical professionals and first responders to set their campers up.
