Florida leaders to reveal new details on investigation into teen’s death on Orlando thrill ride

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State leaders plan to reveal new details about the investigation into a teenager’s death on a thrill ride in Orange County.

Tyre Sampson, 14, died during his spring break trip this year when he fell from the free-fall ride at Icon Park.

Lawmakers are pushing to make thrill rides safer, so this never happens again.

The drop-tower ride has been closed since the teen’s death, nearly eight months ago.

Florida agriculture commissioner Nikki Fried is filing a complaint against the ride’s owner.

Fried plans to share new details about the investigation on Tuesday.

Lawmakers released a draft proposal to strengthen the state’s safety regulations for amusement park rides.

They call for stricter signage requirements, training, safety systems and random inspections.
