OCFR: Orlando man mistakes fishing pole hole for gas tank in his boat

Orlando, Fla. — This is not your regular fish story, Orange County Fire Rescue (OCFR) said a man was so excited to go fishing with his buddies he accidentally pumped $60 worth of gas into the cockpit of his 18-foot boat.

It happened Monday at the 7-eleven on North Orange Blossom Trail.

The Orlando man confused the gas tank with a fishing pole hole and pumped 30 gallons before he noticed the fuel filling the boat.

At that point, he simply put the nozzle in the correct place and kept on going, adding another $40 to his tab.

When the 31-year-old noticed the gas spilling onto the concrete below he went inside the store and asked for help.
The HAZMAT team from OCFR received the call at 11:35 a.m. and by 2:30 p.m. had cleared the scene without evacuations or injuries.

The technicians were able to siphon most of the fuel back out of the boat.

OCFR posted photos of the incident on their Facebook page saying, “ Sometimes things don’t go as planned, good decision to reach out for assistance, happy to help!”
