LISTEN: Orlando Rep. Soto explains ‘Justice in Policing Act of 2020’

ORLANDO, Fla. — Following national protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, House and Senate Democrats unveiled sweeping legislation on Monday meant to bring widespread reforms to police departments across America.

The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 is an extensive bill with many significant potential changes including banning the use of chokeholds, easing legal hurdles in bringing civil penalties against police officers, and create a national registry to track police misconduct.

“We’ve had a problem of a few bad cops being able to go from police department to police department and there not be a record of that,” said Orlando Rep. Darren Soto (D).
